Monday Motivation: 2023 – Brighter Beginnings

Another 365 days gone! Well, the academician in me cannot help but say that 365 days of learning is what I have gained. I am richer by 365 days, worth of knowledge, as knowledge is true wealth. While one may lose all of one’s tangible assets, one will never lose the knowledge that they have gained.

As I sat down yesterday, on the first day of 2023, I was led to thinking of what I want to achieve in the oncoming days. It led me to think of the year gone by and I realized that I need to set my own benchmarks. The year 2022 started on a jubilant note with none other than the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi ji visiting Symbiosis on the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations to commemorate 50 years of Symbiosis’ existence. My heart filled with pride as he commended the contribution of Symbiosis to nation building through education.

As the year rolled we continued to make progress with QS World Asia Rankings where we were ranked amongst the top 351-400 in QS Asia University Rankings 2023, ranked no. 78 in QS Asia University Rankings 2023 – Southern Asia and ranked amongst the top 50 Universities by the National Indian Ranking Framework.

The most important highlight of the year of 2022 was to have students back on campus. During the last two years, due to the lockdown the campuses were barren and we had to teach online. The campuses felt like gardens without flowers. However, the year 2022 brought in blooming gardens with classrooms full of students and teachers enjoying their teaching.

Although we accomplished many feats, but the greatest gratification for our efforts happened in the last month of the year with Symbiosis International University bagging the highest NAAC accreditation of A++, which has given us just the right motivation to reach higher echelons of success in 2023.

This year of 2023 is going to be a remarkable year as our country is hosting the G20 presidency. This means a lot to each one of us as citizens of this country. It also means a lot to Symbiosis as coincidentally the motto of Symbiosis ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ given by its founder Dr Mujumdar 50 years ago resonates with the motto of G20 … one earth, one family, one future… Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.

The philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam is becoming more and more relevant in present times. When nations are becoming nationalistic, it has become important to instil this philosophy of Vasudhaiva Kutumabakam amongst the youngsters so that they become sensitive to different cultures, religions and regions and make them believe that it is one earth that all of us live on and therefore we should live as one family, only then we all will have a better future!
