I feel sheer pride and utter joy as we induct the first batch of 150 women, into the first batch of medical graduates at the Symbiosis Medical College for Women! Reminiscing about my first day as a medical graduate at BJ Medical College Pune, still brings back the butterflies to my stomach and I can empathize with each of these 150 bright, talented and dedicated women who stand here with me today, committing themselves to the cause of healthcare for society.
A movie based on the first Indian woman to become a doctor as far back as the late 1800s, Anandi Gopal inspired Prof. Dr. S. B. Mujumdar to initiate SMCW. As a daughter I can relate to the value that a daughter’s promise to her father holds and I am sure that these young women feel it too. In their turn they too will be inspiring many a young mind.
I wish each student success and may each of them imbibe the morale of empathy that Prof. Dr. S. B. Mujumdar so deeply believes in.
