Last Monday, I couldn’t write my usual blog. I was extremely busy, and for the first time, I missed my self-created ritual of sharing a “Monday Motivation.” The next day, I felt quite guilty. After all, when we commit to something, we want to stay consistent and sincere.
But as I reflected, I realized something important—it was actually okay.
Yes, discipline matters. Consistency matters. But now and then, stepping away from what we always do can be just as valuable. There is a quiet joy in pausing, in choosing to ‘not do’ something that has become routine.
This thought stayed with me.
I have my schoolmates, Nilima and Sangeeta, whom I rarely get time to meet. They call me often, and almost every time I find myself saying, “I’m busy… some meeting or the other.” One day, I decided to break that pattern. I called both of them, and we met at our favorite restaurant, ‘Vaishali’—a place we used to visit frequently during our school and college days. Sitting there together, reminiscing about those carefree times, laughing over old memories—it was truly special. It felt like reconnecting with a part of myself I had almost forgotten.
In the same spirit, I took a break from work and visited my aunts in Satara and Karad. The surprise on their faces was priceless. They were overjoyed—insisting on cooking my favorite dishes, showering me with affection and even a few gifts. But more than anything, they were simply happy that I had taken the time to visit.
It made me realize how easily life becomes monotonous. Between work commitments and home management, we often push aside these small but meaningful moments. We tell ourselves we’ll make time “later,” but later doesn’t always come.
Sometimes, taking a break doesn’t have to be elaborate. It could be as simple as sitting in a cozy coffee shop with friends, sipping a hot cup of coffee, or spending a quiet afternoon in a bookstore, lost in a book of your choice. These little pauses can bring immense joy and a sense of fulfillment.
So, here’s a gentle reminder: it’s okay to pause. It’s okay to step away. And it’s more than okay to occasionally ‘not do’ what you do every single day.
Because in those pauses, you often rediscover the simple pleasures that make life truly beautiful.
