Monday Motivation: Finding Happiness in Little Things

Last weekend, we decided to take a short family holiday to Mumbai. Not a big, exotic vacation—just a simple break. What made it truly special, however, was the company. We travelled as four generations together—my children and their spouses, my grandkids aged 9, 7 and 5, and my parents who are 84 and 91. The age range alone was a challenge and a joy!

Before we left, my husband and I wondered how to make the trip enjoyable for everyone—from playful little ones to elderly parents. That’s when it struck us—holidays aren’t only about sightseeing or shopping. They are about togetherness. Eating meals under the same roof, chatting over breakfast, sharing laughter at lunch, sitting together after dinner—these simple, ordinary things create the best memories. We realized that happiness lies in these little moments.

Mumbai may not be a conventional holiday destination—busy streets, chaotic traffic, always buzzing with work. Yet, the city has a charm of its own. Its seaside beauty is timeless. The Hanging Gardens and the Elevated Nature Trail overlooking the sea, the scenic walkway along the Worli coastal road—each spot offered us fresh air, open space and peaceful family time.

One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the Winter Wonderland by Jio. Watching my grandkids light up with joy was priceless—and to my delight, my parents enjoyed it just as much. A magnificent Christmas tree stood tall, surrounded by vibrant decorations and fun games thoughtfully organised by Hamleys. It felt magical. I must say—hats off to the vision of Nita Ambani for creating such an enchanting space where every generation could find joy.

While returning to Pune, I reflected on our two-day trip. We didn’t do a lot. No rushing to see ten places in a day, no packed schedules. But what we did do was be together. We laughed, played, watched the waves, shared stories, and simply enjoyed each other. Those little moments filled us with happiness and sent us home refreshed and rejuvenated, ready to get back to our routines.

This weekend reminded me—happiness doesn’t always come from grand events. Sometimes, it’s hidden in small joys, shared smiles, and precious time spent with loved ones. If we pause and look around, there are countless little things waiting to make us happy.

So, take that short break, sit with your family, cherish the giggles, hold hands, watch the sunset. You’ll be surprised how much warmth it brings to your heart.
