Time can sometimes feel like it drags on, while at other times, it seems to pass by in the blink of an eye. For me, 2024 flew by quickly, largely due to a series of personal and professional milestones throughout the year.
One of the most significant events this year was the inauguration of the Dubai campus. Launching Symbiosis’ first international campus was no small feat, and the preparations began at the end of 2023. Throughout 2024, we dedicated our efforts to the successful opening of this new campus. At the same time, we also organized exciting events at our India campus, the first being the Symbiosis Film Festival, which was inaugurated by none other than the Bachchans! This idea was something I had discussed with Shri Amitabh Bachchan ji, the Professor Emeritus of Symbiosis International University, and Mrs. Jaya Bachchan ji, both of whom were incredibly supportive. In fact, Mrs. Bachchan generously offered her advice on how to approach the festival, emphasizing the importance of focusing on original stories and screenplays.
Another significant event this year was our convocation in September, which was graced by the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. It was a momentous occasion, as the hard work of thousands of students, faculty, and staff was recognized by the highest office in the country. The joy and pride on the students’ faces, as they received their degrees, was a truly inspiring sight for all involved.
On a personal note, we celebrated my grandson Vir’s Munja ceremony, also known as the thread ceremony, a vital Hindu ritual marking a boy’s entry into formal education and spiritual growth. It was a week-long celebration, with family and close relatives coming together to commemorate this important rite. The focus and emphasis lie on bringing in consciousness into all that the boy undertakes hereafter.
At Symbiosis, our focus remains on research and its potential to positively impact society. Employment generation and placements continue to be key priorities, making our institutions highly attractive to students, who are confident that their education will lead to meaningful careers. However, our efforts also extend to research, ensuring that we are contributing to societal growth alongside preparing students for the future.
As we approach the new year, it’s a time for reflection on what we can improve. Professionally, my commitment to Symbiosis’ growth remains unwavering, but personally, I aim to spend more time with my grandchildren, contributing to their holistic development. As I’ve mentioned before, I follow the 3-E Mantra that my father, Dr. S B. Mujumdar, passed down to me: Excellence, Expansion, and Equity. These principles have been the guiding force behind my work, both in my professional and personal life, and I plan to continue upholding them.
I hope everyone sets meaningful goals for themselves in the year ahead and achieves them. Wishing you all a Happy New Year!
