Bidding adieu to 2009, the New Year opened up to much activity at Symbiosis in terms of both work and Cultural events. The first week began on an exciting note with a 10 day long football tournament organized by the International Office. Participating were students from  26 different Countries and cheering them were fans not just from our University but from all over the city. The finals between Afghanistan and Sudan held on the 17th of January saw a huge turnout of student population from all over Pune and needless to say, it was a thriller with both the winner (Sudan) and runners-up (Afghanistan) putting up a nail biting game! Oh, did we crave for more action and drama.

On the cultural front, the 16 year long tradition of the Symbiosis Sanskrutik Mahotsav unfolded in the course of a 3 day evening program post office hours. Commencing on day one with celebrities from Bollywood and Marathi industry alike were Amisha Patel, Reema Lagoo and Renuka Shahney. The Bollywood beauty with her porcelain good looks and diva like aura clearly stole the scene even with the presence of the veteran actress and the very talented  Shahney. Day two tickled the audience’s funny bone with performances of Makarand Tilloo, Dilip Halayalal, Sunil Holekar from the Hasiya Dhamal team. The 3rd and concluding day of the Sanskrutik fest ended with the famed Zee Saregama Musical team performing for the filled to the brim audience who clearly seemed to be enjoying every single moment of the captivating notes. It was a show stealer unparalleled.

Come 26th January, and it becomes a joy of two events with both the Republic Day and 39th Foundation day of Symbiosis. The flag hoisting ceremony for all Staff members in the morning supplemented with brilliant dance performances from our International students later in the evening saw a true celebration of the day!

If entertainment ruled the month, the weather wasn’t exactly a highpoint with the moderate cold not even give me a single opportunity to pull out my warm cardigans and shawlsL  now with feb on the arrival, winter makes way for the warm summers.

Looking forward to more in the coming weeks!
